We are working with one of Irelands leading events company who build bespoke event production sets, in the appointment of an Operations Director. The Operations Director will steer the end-to-end delivery of all exhibition and live event projects, spanning premium builds to large-scale custom installations. This senior role focuses heavily on resource optimization, design-to-workshop workflows, cross-departmental team management, and logistics. Rather than building from scratch, you will inherit established internal operating systems and optimize them to drive business efficiency, profit margins, and flawless on-site delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Exhibition & Event Delivery Oversight
End-to-End Execution: Own the ultimate delivery accountability for all custom builds, ensuring they match design specs, structural standards, and client timelines.
Troubleshooting: Serve as the final escalation point for any live, time-sensitive build challenges.
Team & Resource Management
Cross-Functional Leadership: Direct, manage, and bridge workflows between three distinct internal teams:
Designers (structural/spatial concepts),
Project Managers (client delivery)
Workshop Staff
Resource Optimization: Manage a dynamic workforce scheduling plan, aligning team capacity with project scale to minimize costly overtime or idle shop time.
Performance & Culture: Foster a cohesive, high-standard working culture across both desk-based creative roles and hands-on workshop personnel.
Supplier, Procurement & Logistics Control
Supply Chain Governance: Audit, select, and manage relationships with external suppliers, including raw material vendors (timber, plastics, metals), specialized finishers, haulage partners, and heavy plant/machinery hire companies.
Logistics Routing: Oversee precision dispatch tracking, freight loading protocols, and vehicular transport schedules to guarantee site arrivals align perfectly with strict venue tenancy slots.
Cost Control: Negotiate trade terms and bulk procurement rates to insulate custom project margins against material fluctuations.
System & Process Improvement
Continuous Improvement: Review existing business operating platforms and systems to remove friction points between the initial design sign-off and physical production.
Waste Minimization: Maintain material tracking and lean workshop practices to cut fabrication waste and increase yield on custom scenic elements.
Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS), maintaining compliance with Irish event safety regulations across the workshop and on-site builds.
EXPERIENCE:
Proven Track Record: At least 5–8 years of senior operations management experience within exhibition building, custom shop fabrication, fit-out contracting, or live event production.
Project Scale Fluency: Comfort managing a diverse project portfolio, with proven experience tracking multiple concurrent fast-turnaround jobs alongside a major anchor builds.
Commercial Mindset: Strong financial literacy with experience managing labor-to-material ratios to maintain target profit margins on custom builds.
Core Competencies
Workflow Orchestration: Demonstrable ability to manage different professional disciplines, translating creative design concepts into tangible construction deliverables.
Logistical Logic: Solid grasp of venue access, transport restrictions, and short-window event builds
Systems Literate: Experience using, updating, or rolling out operations/project tracking systems.
